Fundació Institut Mar d’Investigacions Mèdiques (IMIM) is a biomedical research institute that manages the translational and clinical research carried out by the Parc de Salut Mar (PSMAR). IMIM is a public healthcare organization, that includes two general hospitals, an institute of psychiatry, an institute of geriatrics, and various outpatient facilities dedicated to mental health, addictions, primary care and family planning, as well as teaching facilities in agreement with Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). 700 professionals develop research activities in the framework of IMIM, including 190 principal investigators distributed in 56 research groups.
Within GO-DS21, IMIM will be involved WP1 by elucidating age-related comorbidity patterns in Down syndrome (DS) through recruiting DS individuals, providing medical evaluation of comorbidities associated to individuals with Down syndrome and collecting biological samples for metabolomic, proteomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses for WP2 and WP5. Additionally, relevant data on life style habits, body composition, mood disorders will be collected and multimodal interventions (diet, physical activity, cognitive training) will be applied. In addition, IMIM will be involved in the dissemination efforts to reach patients’ associations, patients, carers and families and laypersons.
