Created in 2011, the ICM – Brain and Spine Institute, is a non-profit foundation collaborating with public partners (CNRS, INSERM, Sorbonne University, AP-HP) to host 25 academic research teams working hand in hand to understand the functioning of the normal and pathological brain, diagnose neurological diseases as early as possible and identify therapeutic answers to treat them. Located in the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital campus in Paris, the ICM is a unique institution bridging from excellent fundamental research in molecular, cellular, systems, and cognitive neuroscience to clinical and therapeutic research. ICM has 700 employees including 140 researchers and 60 clinicians and is recognized as the second Neurology Research Centre in the world.
Dr. Marie-Claude Potier, PharmD-PhD is an ICM team leader expert in the field of Down syndrome (DS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), with specific expertise in cellular, omics and pharmacological aspects of AD, exploring early phenotypes of AD in DS, pharmacotherapy of cognitive deficits and local cohorts of asymptomatic subjects. Within GO-DS21, ICM will lead WP4 to identify mechanisms of DS obesity and intellectual disability comorbidity using OMICS and human cellular models such as adipocytes and neurons derived from iPS cells from selected individuals with extreme phenotypes.
